An Introduction

Welcome to med school hell. This is a blog about my life as a medical student and the “truth” about medical training. I thought I’d get started with a little introduction.

I’m a senior medical student training in the US. I hate medical school with a burning passion like I have never before felt. In future posts, you’ll get to share what it’s like to be in my shoes on the wards. You’ll get to really experience what it’s like to be a medical student or a physician in training. You won’t hear any pansy-ass crap, basically because I don’t give a fuck. You’ll hear it like it is, and I promise I won’t hold anything back.

The administration hates me about as much as I hate the school that pays their salary. I tell it like it is, and they don’t like that. They really don’t know how to take it. I’m more C=MD and FYIGML than they have ever seen. I walk by the Dean and he thinks “that’s the guy who doesn’t give a fuck.” Yep, that’s me.

Before I close this post, I need to get one question out of the way that I’m asked almost on a daily basis. That question is: “If you hate medical school so much, why don’t you just quit?” And here’s the way I have answered that question, mostly from the beginning: I fucked up by starting med school in the first place, but I’m so ass-deep in debt and time that I might as well finish at this point. Also, having an M.D. even if I don’t practice clinical medicine, will get me more perks than I care to talk about at this point. In fact, I have several job offers on the table with a starting salary surpassing the average clinician’s salary after 5 years of practice.

So, stay tuned folks. I hope you guys don’t mind my foul language, because it’s gonna get crazy in here when I get off on my rants. And be prepared to learn about some crazy stuff that occurs during medical training that will knock your socks off. In fact, you’ll think twice about going to an academic medical center for medical care in the future. I promise.

hey, I really love your blog!
I just started med school and have serious doubts about clinical medicine. Could I ask you some questions by email? It would mean a lot to me. My throw away email address is fox_sdyanq@trashmail.net.
Thank so much and keep on blogging!

i love the blog! i want to practice clinical med, but your post is very real. I’d really like it if you could go over some of the things that led you to the decision to not practice, i.e. why you went to med school in the first place, when/how you decided to not practice, and what kinds of jobs are available for those who take this kind of route. Thanks!

Biscuit, I’m actually working on a post that covers those topics. It should be published soon.
