Hi Stox,

Thank you for writing your blog! I am a current 3rd year student, and your blog really captures the way I've been feeling pretty much since I started med school. I had hoped during my 1st two years that I would start liking med school once I started 3rd year, but this has proven not to be the case. I really hate the BS hierarchy and the way, as you pointed out in one of your entries, I am actually paying to be treated like dirt. It's a dreadfully inefficient system for learning, and degrading as well. I've learned that the medical school institution is self-serving and uncaring to the needs of its students.

Anyway, I am starting to think about other careers that I can pursue with an MD degree without having to go through residency training. It's difficult to find information on these career pathways. So far, I have come up with the options of Pharmaceutical clinical consultant and hospital administrator, both of which do not appeal much to me.

I know you had mentioned that you were pursuing a business-oriented pathway, and I was wondering if you can offer some advice on this sort of career option. How did you find out about other career possibilities? What sort of job categories are available to someone with an MD? Did you have to do a lot of networking? Was business something that you thought about pursuing prior to medical school (I have no business degree or training)? Are you satisfied with your job now?

Any insight that you have on nontraditional careers for MDs would be greatly appreciated! If you have time to email me your thoughts at whoyouare1 at gmail.com, or post on this topic, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks a lot,
D.
