I have been a reader of your site for over a year now, since the middle of my third year. You are an inspiration, Hoover! Why aren't there more posts in the "Alternative careers" section? I am about to graduate, and have decided that I don't want to go to residency. I am happy with that decision, but I don't know what to do next. Not all of us have an MBA!!! Thanks!!!

Anyone have any advice?

Similar to the state-supported movement to fund med students going into rural medicine, there's support for academic physicians (academia pays little compared to private practice). Much of it is done by the NIH (K awards or career-development grants), but there are many other funding agencies.
