I thought I’d try something new and go for an incredibly easy way for users to submit articles to MedSchool Hell. I’ve finally got all of the kinks worked out and the contribution page is now up. Please note that this is only in beta at the moment, and depending on the outcome and user interest, may or may not continue in the future.
Who Can Submit
Anyone can submit posts or articles to MedSchool Hell. Even if you have your own blog and would like to make a guest contribution, I encourage you to do so.
Submission Rules
- Any blatantly obvious spam submissions will not be published under any circumstances. This includes relevant content with numerous irrelevant links back to a site or blog that do not contribute to the content of the post. If your plans are to submit spam content, don’t waste your time. It takes me 2 seconds to delete a post.
- Submitting a post does not guarantee that the information will be published. I want to keep the quality of the content at MSH as high as possible. If your submission is not published, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it sucks. Please do not take it personally as there are a lot of criteria that will determine whether or not a post is published.
- Please pay attention to spelling, grammar, sentence structure, etc. Any submissions that need to be mass-edited will most likely not be published. A firm grip on the English language is a huge plus.
- Please keep submissions relevant to medical school, residency training, tips for medical students, medical school humor, etc.
- A name and email address is required to submit posts. You have the option of including a URL that is linked to your name. You may use whatever name you wish, and I encourage you to use a pen name for your writing since your name will show up as the author of the post. Your email address will never be shown.
- When contributing content, it’s a good idea to include a short introductory paragraph so that readers can learn who you are early in your article.
- User-contributed posts will be prefaced with “This post is a user-contributed topic” as the first line of the post in order to distinguish contributed content from content written by the regular MSH authors.
- Everything will be 100% guaranteed anonymous if you use a fake name. Don’t worry about anybody finding out who you are. You can even use a fake email address. It doesn’t matter to me.
- These rules are subject, and highly likely, to change.
- Most importantly, have fun! I want MSH to become an excellent source of information from various authors, so don’t be shy. =)
I guess that’s about it. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions. I look forward to seeing some of your contributed stuff!
I like this idea.
My favorite rule is “These rules are subject, and highly likely, to change.” I think of it as the God rule.
Can the topics also cover public health issues or international health?
Sure Yan, those topics are fine. I just want to keep everything relevant and helpful to the readers here. I figured I’d test this idea out and see how well it does.
On a side note, if submissions aren’t published I’ll try and email the author to let them know the reasons and how the article can be improved for publication. Providing no feedback would discourage people too much I think.
Also, I’m not trying to be an internet Nazi or anything like that. I just want the quality of content for the MSH community to be as good as possible, so please try to remember that.
Having open user submissions is something I’ve never done before so please bear with me as I learn the ropes.
thats a good idea hoover.. i will try to make a post when i get a free time.. hope it works out well..
Do not go to medical school. If I could redo things, I would never have come. Why? Because Medical School is classic brain washing. Think about it, they totally control your environment, keep you sleep deprived, and during surgery, they even starve you, yes starve you, many people loose several pounds during surgery rotation and this common knowledge. Total environment and lack of sleep is insured by spending 60-80 hours at the hospital before coming home to study all the junk they should have taught you during those 60-80 hours at the hospital. Then you will be treated poorly and people will just make the tired excuse that this is the way it has always been done and to stop complaining. No one gives a flip about you and it shows. They make you feel guilty if you get sick, have a doctor’s appointment or otherwise are not available 24/7 to do petty garbage. You are unpaid labor for the rotation years. They are supposed to teach you but all they do is pimp you. I had an attending get upset at me because I was asking questions and they actually told me that they were supposed to be asking the questions. Why the hell do I pay these people a ton of money to only ask me questions? Why is it okay to yell at a student? What happened to common decency? If I yelled at a patient, I would be in serious trouble, but no one give a flip if a resident or attending treat me like dirt. I am just supposed to take it and not complain about it. The worst part is that by the time you hit rotations, you are locked in by debt and the thought that you don’t want to waste all the insane effort you have already put in. If this were a religious organization, it would be classified as a cult. Don’t believe me? Look up some cults and compare the way they brain wash people and the way med school treats students.
