Welcome to Med School Hell – the medical school blog that helps students find their way through medical school and beyond with a no-bullshit approach to what medical training and the medical lifestyle is really about.
My name is Hoover, and I’m a recent medical graduate who decided not to pursue a residency. I’ve been there and done that, so if you have doubts about if medicine is really for you, you’ve found the right place.
Journey with me as I deconstruct common myths and misconceptions about medical training, and look into the light as I explore alternative career paths for newly-minted physicians and those wanting to get out of clinical practice. We’ll look at salary information, and the best choices for residency if you want to live the good life. You’ll find out which specialties you should avoid like the plague, and great-paying alternatives to the daily clinical grind. We’ll look at things you’ve probably never thought about, and it will be an eye-opening experience.
Back in 2005, as a fresh junior medical student, it really hit home that I had made a big mistake by going to medical school. Being interested in the internet and web publishing, I decided to start a medical school blog for personal rants. MedSchool Hell actually started as a free Blogger blog, but has since moved over to the medschoolhell.com domain.
Little did I know at the time, but all of the depression and negative thoughts that I was feeling would be truly life-changing for me. Being forced into a search for every option available, I have accumulated a wealth of knowledge for those of you looking to get out of medicine.
This blog is dedicated to a great lifestyle and high-paying specialties, and to those students who are unhappy in medicine just like I was just a few years ago. Even if you’re completely happy in medicine right now, stick with me for a few posts and you may just learn something new. Want the most bang for your buck and precious time spent at work? You’ve come to the right place.
I keep this blog free and hope to convey information that others are simply too afraid to discuss. While going through trying times as a medical student myself, I could not find the information that I was looking for. Thus, MedSchool Hell was born. If you’d like to support what I do, or if any of the information you found here is helpful or entertaining, please consider adding MedSchool Hell to your blogroll or links list if you also have a web site or blog. Spread the word so that others can benefit.
